Complementary Therapy services

Complementary therapies take a holistic approach to care. This means that you are supported as a whole person, incorporating physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

A reflexologist aims to bring back balance and aid your body to work as well as it can by working on different parts of your feet, face or hands

Relax, Rewind and Reset Meditation

At the beginning of each treatment I offer you to focus your attention on your breathing, its natural rhythm and flow and the way it feels on each inhale and exhale.

This helps you to reconnect with your body, mind and your environment. To focus on the present moment, rather than worrying about the past or the future.

Your Heart  rate slows, breathing slows and deepens, the brain is encouraged into  Alpha-Theta waves.

This  time allows rejuvenation on all

levels – mind, body and spirit – including  a natural boost to immunity.

  • Relieves  tight muscles by gently soothing nerves.
  • Lowers  cortisol and adrenaline levels.
  • Decreases anxiety, stress levels and improves sleep.

Aromatherapy Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage helps alleviate tension and stress in our bodies.

This includes our mind & emotions as well.

First warming up the muscles, then stroke in a manner to relax the muscle/tendon in order to free its tightness.

Working on certain areas to help eliminate knots to enhance a feeling of relief, physically, mentally & emotionally.

The benefit of having a massage is encouraging your blood and lymph circulation around your body, this aids the elimination of built-up toxins.

After a massage, If you have a build-up of toxins that need to be removed from your body, you may experience -a light headache, increased tiredness, nausea, an increase in the need to go to the toilet, muscle soreness, feeling emotional or a change in your blood sugar or blood pressure.

This is known as a healing response and will subside over the next few days. It is important you Self care.

Aftercare Advice Water is your post-massage best friend. Drinking plenty of water will ensure the toxins are expelled from your body. It can also reduce any lingering soreness.

Self Care -Avoid strenuous exercise for the next 12 hours and give your body the necessary time to recover.

Don’t overeat. -A fresh and healthy meal, high in fibre at least two hours after your massage will support your gastrointestinal system to swiftly remove any waste via the bowels.

Sleep well. Listening to your body. Rest will help your body in its recovery process.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 12 hours.- If this can’t be avoided, then again drink plenty of water.

If photosensitive essential oils were incorporated into the massage medium, avoid exposure to direct sunlight and UV light for a minimum of 12h (bergamot and orange 48h).

Reiki is a type of energy healing and is a complementary therapy. It is used as a palliative or supportive therapy for people with cancer.

The aim is to move and balance the ‘energy’ within and around your body.

You might feel a tingling sensation, a deep relaxation, or warmth or coolness throughout your body.

For most people Reiki can bring about a sense of stillness and relaxation, helpful in times of stress.

You do not have to get undressed for treatment , I will put my hands on, or a few inches above your body, usually starting at your head and working down to your feet but may focus on particular areas of the body

Some people with cancer may use reiki alongside their treatment, as a complementary therapy.

Reiki may :-

  • help you to feel deeply relaxed
  • help you cope with difficult situations
  • relieve emotional stress and tension
  • help to improve wellbeing

Side effects

Generally speaking, reiki is safe for most people with cancer.

You are advised  to rest and drink plenty of water after treatment. There are no reports of harmful side effects.

But it’s important to tell your doctor about any complementary therapy, alternative therapy or diet supplement that you use. Then your doctor will always have the full picture about your care and treatment.

Reflexology involves me applying gentle pressure along your feet or hands

Reflexology works on energy pathways similar to acupuncture.

It aims to relax you, ease stress and tension and help with general  well being.

Massage

One of the main reasons people with cancer use massage is because it helps them feel good. It is a way they feel they can help themselves.

Massage therapy can help lift your mood, improve your sleep and enhance your well being. There is some evidence to help support these benefits.

Massage for people with cancer might help you relax and cope with:

  • stress
  • anxiety
  • headaches
  • pain

Working slowly with therapeutic light touch massage that  are modified, to each individual, as appropriate, for clients undergoing chemo or radiotherapy.

Articular Reflexology with ear Seeds

Holistic therapies to support Oncology care or clinically frail condition

Holistic therapies to support Oncology care or clinically frail condition

Ear seeds are a type of auriculotherapy, a traditional Chinese medicine that focuses on the ears.

Acupuncture is an important pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine, using very tiny (and sterile) needles in specific pressure points to restore the flow of energy—or qi— through the body

Ear seeds are tiny balls held on with tiny see through plasters .

How long do ear seeds last in position?

It really depends from person to person, but they can last anywhere from 3-7 days. They're incredibly durable for such tiny little things.

My practice of  Reflexology with ear seeds covers the following protocols

  • neck pain
  • back pain
  • anxiety
  • weight loss
  • cravings
  • insomnia
  • headaches
  • migraines

 Aftercare advice

You should press the seed three to five times a day,for a few seconds at a time. This should give you a sensation of heat, pressure or mild pain. All this is quite normal and serves to reactivate the treatment. Do not press for more than three to five seconds at once in order to avoid irritating the skin.

The ear seed should be retained for three to seven days. At the end of this time, please carefully remove the plaster. The ear seed will come off with the plaster. This can then be disposed of in a regular household waste.

If the ear  seed becomes painful carefully removed the plaster..

If the skin becomes seriously irritated, including redness, bruising, or pain that doesn't go away after removal of the ear seed please contact me.

If you experience dizziness, nausea, or fainting, please remove the ear seeds  immediately and contact me.

Please avoid water entering the ear when swimming or bathing.

Lymph Drainage Reflexology

RLD is an award winning reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet.

The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body.

It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay, whilst working in Cancer Care

RLD can be beneficial   if you suffer with  non-cancer related, auto-immune disorders:-

 Rheumatoid arthritis

Fibromyalgia

Allergies

Migraines and many other inflammatory conditions.

Scar Release Massage

Scar tissue formation is a natural part of the healing process.

Swelling is part of the natural inflammation process, but too much swelling can cause decreased blood flow to the area and pressure and tension to build up around the healing scar.

Pain and fear also keep you from moving, which can lead to a stiffening of muscles and tight and inflexible scars.

Scar tissue massage uses pulling and stretching to remodel scar tissue and helps you regain mobility and strength in damaged tissue, which softens the scar tissue, relieve discomfort, and improve your quality of life.

Lymph Drainage Massage

Lymph Drainage Massage

Your lymphatic system is an important part of your immune system. It keeps fluids in your body balanced and protects you against infections.

If your lymphatic system doesn't work right or is blocked, you'll end up with extra fluid in your tissues. Unlike blood circulation the lymphatic system relies upon body movement and breathing.

Impaired lymph drainage can lead to a build up of toxins  which can lead to reoccurring illnesses - colds/ flu, feeling sluggish.

Stimulating the lymphatic system strengths the immune system, helps metabolism and general health .

Lymphatic drainage massage has become a popular form of massage due to its potential health benefits..

It is a gentle form of massage that is helpful  if you have lymphoedema , (when lymph fluid doesn't go back to your blood the way it should and stays  in your legs or arms.

Lymphatic drainage is usually safe. I advise you to consult your GP first if you have a
