Reflexology is a gentle therapy that aims to restore balance to the body. It is a scientific art based on the idea that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet which correspond to all parts of the body.
It is a touch therapy applied using the thumbs and fingers to apply pressure to specific points on the feet. Each point corresponds with an internal organ, gland or other structure.
The pressure allows the release of blocked energy and built-up toxins. This in turn improves circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage, releases toxins, stimulates nerve endings and relaxes muscles.
Reflexology is an excellent complement to traditional medical care. Please click on the video below from the Association of Reflexologists, which explains the methods and benefits of Reflexology.
Usually, after a treatment you should feel your tension be reduced and feel more relaxed. You might also notice you sleep better and find your sense of well-being improving.
I recommend that you should take care of yourself in the next 24 hours: aim to relax for the rest of the day and try to drink plenty of water.
Occasionally, you may experience a "healing response" after a treatment, as the body starts to go through its own healing process. This is very normal and is a positive sign that the body has responded to the treatment and that it is starting to rebalance itself.
Reactions may include:
These reactions are all temporary and should clear within 24-48 hours. BUT if your symptoms persist, do not hesitate to contact me or if you really feel unwell, consult your GP.
Reflexology can be received by anyone at any age, from new-born babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between.
Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person. On your first visit, we discuss your history and your aims, taking into account both medical and lifestyle factors that might be affecting your well-being.
Reflexology also can give you some relief for:
Reflexology should not hurt. If you feel tender spots, the foot may have been bruised earlier or it may indicate that the corresponding area of the body is out of balance.
Don't worry! Reflexology is a gentle, but firmer pressure and uses slower movements, which is adjusted to suit you, as some people are ticklish on different areas of the foot.
Or
why not try reflexology on your hands or face ?
Note: Well-trained reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. The Association of Reflexologists recommend we do not treat clients with the following: history of Deep Vein Thrombosis - DVT as the increase in circulation might disturb a blood clot, history of unstable pregnancies, severe cellulitis - inflammation of the skin, contagious diseases and skin conditions, Verruca and Athlete’s foot.
